José Morillo García has been selected by INTBAU Spain as master craftsperson of the month for December 2023.
José Morillo specializes in the restoration of traditional wall finishes. In recent years he has focused on the restoration of the characteristic Extremaduran sgraffito, mostly from the Renaissance period. He is currently one of the few specialists in Extremadura who masters the original technique.
Given his experience as a restorer and his family roots in masonry – his father’s trade – he masters the traditional techniques of mortar replacement: joints, plastering, finished and scagliola. He uses the technique not only in restorations but also when carrying out new work.
