Fourth International Conference on Traditional Building, Architecture and Urbanism

The fourth edition of the International Conference on Traditional Building, Architecture and Urbanism, organized by the Traditional Building Cultures Foundation, INTBAU, Fundaçao Serra Henriques and Kalam, will take place in Lisbon on November 16 and 17, 2023. The third Iberian Meeting, organized by INTBAU Spain and INTBAU Portugal, will also be held during this event.

The Conference will have an in-person and a virtual program. The in-person program will take place at various locations in Lisbon, and will feature both lectures by international architects and demonstrations by masters of traditional building. The online program will feature a series of pre-recorded lectures. It will also allow access to the recordings of the on-site lectures once the Conference has concluded.

To participate in the Conference, either in its in-person or online version, registration is required but free of charge. This can be done through this form.

2023 Donald Gray Grant

The call for the Donald Gray Grant, organized by the Traditional Building Cultures Foundation and INTBAU within the framework of the Richard H. Driehaus Building Arts Awards, is still open for the training of an apprentice for a period of four months with the master windmill carpenter Vicente Casero.

The trainee will enjoy financial support for a period of four months (or its equivalent if the training is carried out in intermittent periods), starting from the beginning of the mentoring and apprenticeship process and setting the start date by mutual agreement with the master. This financial support will amount to a total of 4,000 €, the total or partial receipt of which will always be subject to the fulfillment of the training objectives set at the beginning of the training.

The deadline for applications is December 12, 2023.

Proposals can still be submitted to INTBAU’s “Grassroots” program

In the first edition of the “Grassroots” program, five small grants of up to £5,000 will be awarded. New proposals or existing programs that support, promote or adapt building traditions from around the world are being sought.

15 finalists will compete for the 16th Spanish National Crafts Awards

Up to 66 candidatures have been submitted to the sixteenth edition of the Spanish National Crafts Awards. After studying the proposals, the selection committee composed of experts in the craft sector and representatives of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism has selected the 15 finalists from various sectors and Spanish regions.

Bruges Summer School of Architecture and Crafts

The registration period for the Bruges summer school, organized by La Table Ronde de l’Architecture, is now open. The summer school will take place from June 30 to August 4, 2024.

Master of Science in Historic Preservation

This two-year program, organized by the Notre Dame School of Architecture (USA), is aimed at architects who wish to specialize in heritage preservation.

Classes are held both at Notre Dame’s campus near Chicago and at its school in Rome, giving the program a unique international focus.

Intensive training in dry stone

On December 6, 7 and 8 a theoretical and hands-on workshop on this craft will be held, in which the different ways of building with the dry stone technique will be taught.

The course will be delivered by the master marger Lluis Contreras Badia.

The Prince’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts will continue to offer over the coming months an intensive program of short courses and lectures

The program offers lectures, workshops and short hands-on courses in traditional arts and crafts. The various activities are open to anyone over the age of 18 and cater to all levels of skill and experience, from beginners to seasoned professionals.
