Last Days to Submit Applications for the 2025 Building Arts Awards

These awards are organized annually by the Traditional Building Cultures Foundation with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, in collaboration with INTBAU Spain and the Institute of Spanish Architects’ Associations. The deadline for submissions is January 22, 2025.

The awards recognize traditional building crafts across four categories, each offering an annual prize of €10,000 and a commemorative plaque.

Final Weeks to Submit Proposals for the Richard H. Driehaus Architecture Competition

The call for proposals for the latest edition of the Richard H. Driehaus Architecture Competition remains open. Organized by the Traditional Building Cultures Foundation with the support of Richard H. Driehaus, the Ministry of Culture (through the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage and Fine Arts), INTBAU Spain, and the Institute of Spanish Architects’ Associations, the competition invites submissions until February 4, 2025.

Architects from around the world are encouraged to participate in this second, international phase of the competition by submitting architectural and urban design proposals for any of the three selected locations: Baltanás (Palencia), Irurita (Navarra), and La Fresneda (Teruel). Participants may also submit proposals for multiple sites.

The winning proposal for each location will receive a First Prize of €12,000, while Honorable Mentions, as determined by the jury, will receive €2,000 each.

Registration Open for the 2025 European AHI Award

The European “Architectural Heritage Intervention” Award is a biennial competition that aims to recognize high-quality interventions in built heritage and contribute to their dissemination. With a history spanning ten years, the award seeks to establish itself as a benchmark and meeting point for reflecting on the new challenges posed by the globalization of contemporary architecture in the preservation and restoration of heritage.

The deadline for submitting entries is March 14, 2025.

Results of the Gran Vía 19 Counterproposal Competition, Organized by Motín Arquitectónico

The jury has awarded the first prize to Proposal No. 9, by Alex Peacock. Alongside the first prize, the jury has also recognized Proposal No. 3, by Herman Stinia. Additionally, two honorable mentions were granted to Proposal No. 1 (by Andreas Mendez) and Proposal No. 5 (by Juan Requena Aragón). Lastly, the Popular Vote Award went to Proposal No. 10, by Diego Luccioni.

Inaugural Edition of the Architectura Picta International Festival

The inaugural edition of the Architectura Picta International Festival brought together scholars, painters, and 20 architects and architecture students from various countries to explore illusionary perspectives and trompe l’œil in architecture.

Held from October 11th to 13th, 2024, in the Refectory of Trinità dei Monti, this three-day event transformed the iconic venue into a hub of exchange and learning.

TAG Awards 2024

The TAG Awards 2024, organized by the Traditional Architecture Group (TAG), host to INTBAU UK, have announced the winners in five award categories:

– Best Measured Drawing: Awarded to Jago Trelawny for his drawing of Eastend House in South Lanarkshire.
– Best Student Project: Granted to Luke Alcock for his project in the Old Dorter ruins of Worcester Cathedral.
– Best Built Project: Awarded to Ptolemy Dean Architects for their work on the Aldourie Estate.
– Outstanding Craftsmanship Award: Presented to carpenters Ben Naylor and Rob Poole.
– Lifetime Achievement Award: Conferred upon Léon Krier in recognition of his extraordinary career.

Sustainable Rehabilitation Studies by Boulouki

With the support of an INTBAU “Grassroots” grant, Boulouki has conducted two sustainable rehabilitation studies that lay the groundwork for the adaptive reuse of a historic building.

International Architecture Competition

With the support of an INTBAU “Grassroots” grant, the Department of Architecture at Antalya Bilim University, in collaboration with the Akdeniz Association of Architects in Private Practice, has launched an international competition for architecture students.

Titled “Reinterpreting Tradition: Contemporary Insights Towards Buttoned Houses’ Technique,” the competition aims to integrate the cultural heritage of Buttoned Houses, one of Antalya’s traditional construction techniques, with contemporary architectural practices.

The awards include the following categories:

National Craft Awards

The winners of the National Craft Awards, organized annually by the Spanish Ministry of Industry and Tourism through the School of Industrial Organization (EOI) and its craft promotion department, Fundesarte, have been announced.

Among the honorees is the Ramón Recuero Blacksmith School, which won the “Promociona” Award for Private Entities for its efforts in training young people in the traditional craft of blacksmithing.

Ramón Recuero was previously awarded the 2022 Building Arts Award by the Traditional Building Cultures Foundation in collaboration with INTBAU Spain.

Summer School of Architecture and Urban Design

Create Streets, in collaboration with ADAM Architecture, has launched a new edition of its Summer School of Architecture and Urban Design, which will take place from July 11 to 20, 2025, in Sherborne, United Kingdom.

The intensive course consists of two modules. Participants can attend either one of the modules or both. A Craft Module is included at the beginning of the Architecture Module, and those attending only the Urban Design Module can also add it as an optional component.
