The call for the Hispania Nostra Awards for Best Practices in Cultural and Natural Heritage 2024 is now open
The awards have three categories:
– Intervention in the territory or landscape.
– Heritage conservation as a factor of social and economic development.
– Signage and dissemination for cultural and natural heritage.
The deadline for submitting entries is April 12, 2024.
Survey on the status of traditional crafts
Mad’in Europe and Future for Religious Heritage (FRH) have organized a European-wide survey with the aim of advancing towards a better understanding of traditional craftsmanship.
The survey is aimed at 1) craftspeople specializing in cultural heritage conservation; 2) architects, cultural heritage conservators or owners of heritage buildings; and 3) schools and craft training centers.
Philippe Rotthier European Architecture Prize
The call for entries for the new edition of the Philippe Rotthier European Architecture Prize is open until April 30, 2024. The theme of this year’s edition is “Vernacular Architecture”. The prize will award up to 40,000 euros in prize money.
This year’s edition is being organized by La Table Ronde de l’Architecture.
They are looking for projects that make maximum possible use of local materials, as well as traditional building methods and techniques. Also that take into account local architecture and that are well integrated into their built and natural environments.
Carlos Muñoz de Pablos, Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts
The Council of Ministers has awarded the Gold Medals for Merit in Fine Arts for the year 2023 to 37 cultural personalities and institutions. Among the awardees is the restorer and master stained glass artist Carlos Muñoz de Pablos.
Among the works Muñoz de Pablos has done -many of them with the collaboration of his two sons, also master stained glass artists- we can highlight the restoration of the windows of the Cathedral of Segovia, the Cathedral of Avila, the Bank of Spain, the Palace of the Congress of Deputies, the Senate Palace and San Pietro in Montorio, in Rome, as well as the design of windows for buildings such as the Alcazar of Segovia and the Cathedral of Colón and the Church of La Merced, both in Panama.

Publication of The Classic Planning Herald
The first issue of The Classic Planning Herald, organized by The Classic Planning Institute, has recently been published. This issue focuses on classical architectural education.

This course, organized by the International Institute for Restoration and Preservation Studies, will take place from June 3 to August 9, 2024 in San Gemini, Italy.
The deadline for applications is March 15, 2024.
Hands-on workshop on artisanal formulation of mortars
This workshop, organized by the Museo de la Cal de Morón, will be delivered by the master painter and scagliola artist Luis Prieto, in Madrid, on February 10 and 11, 2024.
The King’s Foundation Courses
The King’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts has announced a new series of lectures, workshops and short hands-on courses in traditional arts and crafts.
Its activities are aimed at anyone over the age of 18 and cater for all levels of skill and experience, from beginners to seasoned professionals.
INTBAU Mexico has organized a series of drawing workshops
These workshops, which will be held in Mexico City, will teach the basics of traditional architecture and the principles of classical urbanism using drawing as a tool.

Building of a replica of a vault of the Cathedral of Murcia
Enrique Rabasa will lead the construction of a replica of a vault of the Cathedral of Murcia, according to the design made by Alonso de Vandelvira in the 16th century. This activity is part of the project of the company Rosal Stones in Murcia and will include the participation of Les Compagnons du Devoir.

International Making Cities Livable Conference
The call for abstracts is now open for a new edition of the International Making Cities Livable (IMCL).
The conference will take place in Newport on April 28-30, 2024 and will be organized in collaboration with CNU, The King’s Foundation, INTBAU, UN-Habitat, the Seaside Institute, HealthBridge Canada, among others.

The UNESCO Chair “Earthen architecture, construction cultures and sustainable development” has organized a new conference entitled “Clay, culture and community: celebrating vernacular architecture in contemporary Nepal”, which has been delivered by Asmita Sigdel (ABARI Studio).
