Juan Luis Camacho Molina, 2024 Rafael Manzano Prize

The 12th Rafael Manzano Prize for New Traditional Architecture has been awarded by the Traditional Building Cultures Foundation to Juan Luis Camacho Molina, a Spanish architect with a long track record in heritage rehabilitation and the design of new buildings rooted in architectural tradition, harmoniously integrated into their urban or natural settings.

Carmen Añón Feliú, 2024 Richard H. Driehaus Heritage Preservation Medal

The 2024 Richard H. Driehaus Medal for Heritage Preservation has been awarded by the Traditional Building Cultures Foundation to Carmen Añón Feliú, in recognition of her distinguished career in the protection, dissemination, and preservation of historic gardens and cultural landscapes over more than six decades. Her work in restoring some of Spain’s most iconic gardens and her contribution to various cultural initiatives for the recognition and protection of such heritage have also established her as an unquestionable figure of reference in her discipline.

New Edition of the Richard H. Driehaus Architecture Competition

Architects of all nationalities are invited to participate in the latest edition of the Richard H. Driehaus Architecture Competition, organized by the Traditional Building Cultures Foundation.

Proposals may be submitted until February 4, 2025, for each of the three localities selected in the first phase of the competition: Baltanás (Palencia), Irurita (Navarra), and La Fresneda (Teruel).

For each of the three sites, the authors of the winning First Prize proposal will receive a total of €12,000, and the authors of each Honorable Mention awarded by the jury will receive a total of €2,000.

INTBAU has launched a new edition of the “Grassroots” grants program

In the first edition of the program, more than 70 applications were received from over 30 countries, and £25,000 were allocated to fund the 5 selected projects.

In this new edition, INTBAU will once again award grants of up to £5,000 to support projects that promote local solutions to the challenges of the built environment.

The deadline for submitting applications is January 19, 2025.

Fifteen finalists compete for the 17th National Crafts Awards

After reviewing the entries, the selection committee for the award, composed of craft experts and representatives from the Ministry of Industry and Tourism, has selected 15 finalist projects.

Among the finalists for the National Craft Award is the traditional scagliola firm Estucs, Esgrafiats i Restauració Oriol Garcia, a member of the Spanish Network of Traditional Building Crafts Masters. In the “Promociona Award for Private Entities” category, the Escuela de Herreros Ramón Recuero, also a member of the Network, has been nominated.

“Keeping Building Traditions Alive: Masons Ink’s work with women masons in India”

On the occasion of the launch of the new edition of the INTBAU “Grassroots 2025” grants program, INTBAU India Chair Jyoti Soni conducted an interview with the directors of Masons Ink, who were recipients of a grant in the previous edition of the program.

In the interview, they discuss the impact the project is having on developing the skills of the women participating in it.

Registration is now open for the workshops organized by Terrachidia for 2025 in Morocco:

  • In M’hamid El Ghizlane, from February 1 to 8, 2025.
  • In Inzerki, from April 26 to May 3, 2025.
  • In the Oasis of Ich, from August 30 to September 6, 2025.

In each of its projects Terrachidia collaborates with local master builders who possess deep knowledge of the region’s traditional architecture and construction techniques.

The Robert Adam Rome Scholarship in Architecture

The Robert Adam Rome Scholarship in Architecture is now in its second edition, inviting applications from Commonwealth citizens and UK residents. The scholarship’s first edition was awarded to Jakub Ryng.

This scholarship, aimed at the study of classical Italian architecture and urbanism, offers full accommodation at the British School and a monthly stipend.

“Interreligious Dialogues in the Time and Space of Southern Asia”

On November 16, 2024, the Jacobilli Library will host the international symposium “Interreligious Dialogues in the Time and Space of Southern Asia” in Foligno, Italy.

The symposium aims to highlight the phenomena emerging from interreligious encounters, such as the sacralization of places, social coexistence in shared spaces, syncretism in faith practices, and linguistic code hybridization, explored through five categories representing the most visible means of religious communication.
