Award Ceremony of the 15th edition of the National Crafts Awards

On December 16, the award ceremony of the 15th edition of the National Crafts Awards will be held in the auditorium of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism.

The National Crafts Award is intended to recognize the entirety of a consolidated work. This year the award will be competed by Artesanía en Vidrio J. Sorribes, a company that works glass in Valencia; Blancafort Orgueners de Montserrat, master organ builders from Barcelona; and Paco Luis Martos, a specialist in Mudejar coffered ceilings from Jaen, Andalusia.

Both Artesanía en Vidrio J. Sorribes and Paco Luis Martos are members of the Spanish Network of Traditional Building Crafts Masters. Paco Luis was also awarded the Richard H. Driehaus Building Arts Award in 2020.

The Triana Gate in Seville: images of a vanished heritage

The following video presents a research that documents, analyzes and graphically reconstructs the missing Triana Gate in Seville, which was demolished in the nineteenth century. It is a project in which the Sevillian architect Rafael Manzano Martos has collaborated.

Its historical context, its authorship and outstanding images of its architectural features and its privileged environment between the 16th and 19th centuries have been reviewed. For the virtual recreation archaeological remains and its classical composition have been analyzed, considering architectural treatises of the time and photographs of the nineteenth century that provide reliable details.

Enrique Nuere, 2016 Rafael Manzano Prize and the greatest Spanish specialist in Mudejar carpentry, master of an entire generation of carpenters and scholars of this craft, has recently received the Honoris Causa doctorate at the University of Alcalá.

Summer School 2023: Learning from Tradition

The Ax:son Johnson Centre for the Study of Classical Architecture has organised a new edition of its summer school, which will take place between 2 July and 5 August 2023, in Engelsberg, Sweden and Cambridge, UK.
