Driehaus, considered one of the 25 most influential financiers in the USA.<\/p>\n<p>The first phase of the competition, concluded last November, chose four Spanish towns: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.driehauscompetition.com\/en\/locations\/borox\/\">Borox<\/a> (Toledo), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.driehauscompetition.com\/en\/locations\/trujillo\/\">Trujillo<\/a> (C\u00e1ceres), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.driehauscompetition.com\/en\/locations\/baza\/\">Baza<\/a> (Granada) y <a href=\"https:\/\/www.driehauscompetition.com\/en\/locations\/jaca-2\/\">Jaca<\/a> (Huesca). In the second phase, 74 architecture national and international firms submitted their design proposals to respond to the needs of these municipalities. Matthew Blumenthal and Patrick Alles\u2019s NY-based architecture studio, the architects of Madrid-based architecture firm Estefan\u00eda Fern\u00e1ndez-Cid, Xavier and Lucia Espin\u00f3s and Rodrigo Toro, Basque architects Imanol Iparraguirre and Aritz D\u00edez and Seville-based architects Abelardo Linares del Castillo and Elena Jim\u00e9nez were the winners of the competition; each team received 12,000 Euros. Additionally, nine honorary mentions were given this year, with an award of 2,000 Euros each.<\/p>\n<p>A NY-based architecture studio was the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.driehauscompetition.com\/en\/2017-2018-edition\/\"> winner for the Borox project<\/a>. Matthew Blumenthal and Patrick<br \/>\nAlles propose to transform two of the main public buildings of the town, the retirement home and the<br \/>\nmunicipal library, in order to create a harmonious integration with the rest of buildings in the area, The<br \/>\nproject \u201cUniting the City\u201d relocates the new home for the elderly on the edge of the main avenue,<br \/>\nextends the existing green spaces and creates a new indoor space on the center of the new park.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=&#8221;http:\/\/intbauspain.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Primer-Premio-Borox.jpg&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.5.1&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; title_text=&#8221;Borox First Prize&#8221; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;][\/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;3.27.4&#8243;]In the case of Trujillo, Basque architects Imanol Iparraguirre and Aritz D\u00edez, winners last year of the<br \/>\nfirst prize with their proposals for Grajal de Campos, have submitted their \u201cProject Kalathos\u201d to add<br \/>\nvalue to the environment of the wall through a new construction in the area: a building around a patio<br \/>\naccording to the best architectural qualities of the town and which provides a connection between the<br \/>\nPlaza de los Moritos and the Convento de La Coria though a new public thoroughfare.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=&#8221;http:\/\/intbauspain.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Proyecto-ganador-trujillo.jpg&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.5.1&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; title_text=&#8221;Trujillo First Prize&#8221; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;][\/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;3.27.4&#8243;]On the other hand, the Baza project, a design of the Madrid-based team of architects Estefan\u00eda<br \/>\nFern\u00e1ndez-Cid, Xavier and Luc\u00eda Espin\u00f3s and Rodrigo Toro, called \u201cAgua\u201d, includes the transformation<br \/>\nof the cloister of the Convento de San Jer\u00f3nimo and its rehabilitation as a hotel, and the recovery of the<br \/>\nPalacio de los Enr\u00edquez and its gardens, and the construction of buildings more in line with the identity of<br \/>\nthe city at the foot of the existing orchards. This project is mainly based on water as a resource, reflected<br \/>\non the Caz Mayor and the orchards\u2019 irrigation canals, around which a nice promenade is created.[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=&#8221;http:\/\/intbauspain.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Agua_Primer-Premio_Baza.jpg&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.5.1&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; title_text=&#8221;Baza First Prize&#8221; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;][\/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;3.27.4&#8243;]Exceptionally, Jaca submitted a new bid to the competition after its project was not awarded last year.<br \/>\nThe winning proposal of the creation of a new Main Square in the historical city center corresponds to the<br \/>\nproject \u201cPluribus Unum\u201d by Seville-based architects Abelardo Linares del Castillo and Elena Jim\u00e9nez,<br \/>\nwho propose a new civic space that pays special attention to the facades of the new square, bringing light<br \/>\nto the open passages to connect it to the nearby streets.[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=&#8221;http:\/\/intbauspain.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Proyecto-ganador-plaza-Jaca.jpg&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.5.1&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; title_text=&#8221;Jaca First Prize&#8221; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;][\/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;3.27.4&#8243;]<strong>Richard H. Driehaus Architecture Competition has awarded 66,000\u20ac in prizes.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The jury if composed by representatives from the Spanish Ministry of Development, the Minister of Education, Culture and Sport, the Higher College of Architects of Spain, INTBAU (International Network for Traditional Building, Architecture and Urbanism), the Rafael Manzano Prize and the city council of the four towns, who judged the quality and feasibility of the 74 projects submitted.
