INTBAU<\/strong> is a network of people and institutions which have the aim of promoting the creation of places and buildings which are more human, which get to be in harmony with the local culture and its traditions and which are also respectful with regard to the environment, bearing in mind the local climate and the available resources. By promoting and teaching architecture, town planning and the arts of traditional building, we encourage people to study, to maintain and to restore both buildings and traditional urban complexes. We also encourage them to create new spaces and places which, taking these traditional ones as a reference, contribute to a better quality of life in the cities and villages throughout the world.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Anyone interested in this goal has a place in the INTBAU<\/strong> network, which has some 10,000 members worldwide, with chapters already established in some 40 countries: Afghanistan, Albania, Australia, Bangladesh, Belgium, Canada, Costa Rica, Cuba, China, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Ethiopia, Finland, Germany, India, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Levant, Malaysia, Mexico, Montenegro, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Norway, Pakistan, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, the so-called SIDS, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom and United States. These chapters work to achieve INTBAU's objectives by adapting to the local needs of each country.<\/p>\n

INTBAU Spain<\/strong> was founded by Javier Cenicacelaya, Alejandro Garc\u00eda Hermida and Pablo \u00c1lvarez Funes in 2012 with the aim of creating and expanding a more operational and active network that brings together people and institutions that share INTBAU's objectives in our country. Since its inception, this network aims not only to develop its own initiatives, but also to serve as a platform for collaboration and exchange of information and contribute to the promotion of other related initiatives organized by its members and other institutions linked to the network itself.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Thus, INTBAU Spain<\/strong> has already more than 1,500 members and organizes, supports or promotes a growing number of initiatives, including active collaboration with INTBAU Portugal and with the Traditional Building Cultures Foundation<\/a>, which develops projects such as the Rafael Manzano Prize for New Traditional Architecture, the Spanish Network of Traditional Building Crafts Masters, the Richard H. Driehaus Building Arts Awards and Architecture Competition, the Iberian Summer Schools of Traditional Architecture, the Donald Gray Grants or the Journal of Traditional Building, Architecture and Urbanism<\/em>, in addition to various exhibitions, publications, summer schools, seminars, workshops and other projects.<\/p>\n

We are convinced that traditional building, architecture and urbanism must not only be properly documented, studied, disseminated and preserved, but that they continue to provide an unparalleled model for improving current practice in these fields.<\/p>\n

The Traditional Building Cultures Foundation<\/strong> seeks to foster and promote the study, protection, teaching, dissemination and conservation of the traditional building, architecture and urbanism characteristic of the various regions of the world.<\/p>\n

The initiatives of the Traditional Building Cultures Foundation<\/strong> are intended to give continuity to the craftsmanship allowing the places that we most cherish to be designed, built and conserved. Biography<\/h4>\n\t\t\t\t

Graduated with a degree in Architecture from the University of Navarra. Professor of Architectural Composition at the University of the Basque Country. M.A. (Oxford Brookes University). MSc. (University of Oxford). PhD. from University of Navarra. Javier has been editor of the international architectural magazine Composicion Arquitectonica, Art & Architecture. He practices architecture along with Mr. I\u00f1igo Salo\u00f1a. Together, they have built a number of buildings and have received diverse awards, such as the European Prize for the Reconstruction of the City (Fondation Rotthier) on two occasions, the Rafael Manzano Prize in 2014, and awards from the Basque Country and Navarre Institute of Architects and the Bizkaia Institute of Architects.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>

Biography<\/h4>\n\t\t\t\t

PhD in Architecture and MA in Conservation and Restoration of Architectural Heritage from the Madrid Polytechnic University School of Architecture, where he has been Associate Professor since 2019.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

He has been Associate Professor at the Alfonso X el Sabio University (2009-19), Visiting Scholar at the University of Notre Dame School of Architecture (US, 2016) and guest lecturer at universities such as Yale, Miami, Colorado, Liverpool or Politecnico di Milano, among others. His professional practice has been devoted to traditional architecture and building and the restoration and study of historic buildings, largely in Spain and Morocco, along with the creation and management since 2012, thanks to Richard H. Driehaus, of the initiatives run today by this Foundation. He is also the Strategic Advisor of Kalam Corporation in the USA, a board member of the NGO Terrachidia and cofounding Vice-Chair of INTBAU Spain. Recognitions of this work include the 2015 INTBAU Excellence Award, the 2019 Hispania Nostra Award, a Special Mention in the 2019 EU-Europa Nostra Awards, the 2021 Philippe Rotthier European Architecture Prize, and the 2021 National Craft Award.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>

A graduate in Architecture, specialising in Precarious Human Settlements, of the Madrid Polytechnic University. She has taken part in various restoration projects in Casamance (Senegal) and collaborated in the coordination of various workshops for the restoration of historic buildings and earthen constructions with the NGO Terrachidia in Morocco. She has been Secretary and Treasurer of INTBAU Espa\u00f1a since 2016 and, thanks to Richard H. Driehaus, is part of the team which since 2016 has created and coordinated the initiatives run by the Traditional Building Cultures Foundation. Biography<\/h4>\n\t\t\t\t

Architect. He graduated from the Escuela de Arquitectura de Sevilla in 2008 and then continued his studies by carrying out an MA at the Escuela de Arquitectura de Madrid in 2013. In 2012 he set up, together with Javier Cenicacelaya and Alejandro Garc\u00eda Hermida, the Spanish chapter of INTBAU. From then on, he takes part in many initiatives - both in Spain and Portugal - as well as carrying out personal collaborations with INTBAU Italy and INTBAU UK. He has given lectures on classical architecture and Spanish-Muslim architecture in several European and American countries and his articles have been published in different specialized magazines. He currently lives in London where he works as an associate architect at Stanhope Gate Architecture.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>

Architect from the Universidad de Navarra, he has been a professor at the same institution. He has been an architect at the Historic Heritage Service of the Direcci\u00f3n General de Cultura-Instituci\u00f3n Pr\u00edncipe de Viana of the Navarra Government since 1986. As an architect of that institution, he has been awarded the Restoration and Conservation of Cultural Heritage National Prize in 1998 and the Rafael Manzano Prize in 2012, among others. He is a Member of the Academia del Partal and of the Reial Acad\u00e8mia Catalana de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>

A graduate in Architecture of the Madrid Polytechnic University, with a degree in Psychology from the UNED University. For over five years he has been General Coordinator of the French cultural centre Domaine de Boisbuchet, where he has organised courses, exhibitions and residential workshops linked to art, design and architecture. He is also responsible for the collection, library and archive of Alexander von Vegesack, founder of the Vitra Design Museum and a renowned collector. Since 2019 he has been part of the team which has created and coordinated the initiatives run by the Traditional Building Cultures Foundation. Graduated with a degree in Advanced Middle Ages Studies, holds a Ph.D. focused on Hispanic Philology, a Ph.D. on Geography and History and he is Specialist in Theory, History, Legislation and Intervention in architectural restoration. He is a Professor at Universidad Alfonso X El Sabio, teaching History of Architecture and Theory of Restoration. He is Coordinator of the Architectural Composition Area and of the PhD in Architecture and Heritage Program at the same university. He is Activities Vice Chair of the Centro de Investigaci\u00f3n de Arquitectura Tradicional of the UPM (CIAT). He is author of several books and essays on Architecture and Heritage, Medieval Studies and Historical Onomastics.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>

Biography<\/h4>\n\t\t\t\t

A graduate in Architecture from the M\u00e1laga University School of Architecture, she is currently completing an MA in Architecture and Historic Heritage at the University of Seville. She works professionally as an architect with the Bastidas Architecture practice, founded by Sergi Bastidas (Rafael Manzano New Traditional Architecture Laureate 2021). She has worked for Kalam, a specialist firm in historic building conservation and refurbishment, and at various architecture practices in Spain and the Netherlands, as well as on a freelance basis in refurbishment projects. In the professional field, her career focuses on the study and documentation of historical and traditional buildings, as well as on the realization of restoration projects on heritage buildings with traditional materials and construction techniques. Her professional career has been closely linked to the traditional building trades, having been part of the team of the Spanish Network of Traditional Building Crafts Masters. He is Member of the Royal Academies of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid and of Nuestra Se\u00f1ora de las Angustias in Granada. He has been awarded the National Prize for the Conservation and Restoration of Goods of Cultural Interest in 2016 and the Richard H. Driehaus Heritage Preservation Medal 2019. Was born in Barcelona, and founded his first studio in 1979, \u201cBB-Architects\u201d (currently Bastidas Architecture). He started his professional career in Barcelona, where he worked with Enric Franch Miret (his mentor), with whom he collaborated in several ADI-FAD competitions. During his career, of almost 40 years, he has worked in the Balearic Islands, Barcelona, Paris, New York and Marrakech. His projects are mainly new construction works but also renovations, always using traditional materials and techniques. He also has a special interest in integrating in his buildings the identity of the places they belong to. After many years collaborating, in 2020 finally his two sons, Gerard and Boris Bastidas, joined him in the management team of Bastidas Architecture.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>

He is a member of the board of trustees of several cultural institutions, such as the Prado Museum, the Naval Museum, Hispania Nostra, Europa Nostra and the World Monuments Fund. Having retired from the Spanish Foreign Service, today, he is actively dedicated to the preservation of heritage and natural landscape. Architect graduating from the Universidad de Sevilla School of Architecture, he soon began to work in the Otaisa group (Technical Offices of Architecture and Engineering S.A.), where he would quickly occupy the position of Chief Executive Officer and then President. His work as an architect has obtained important commissions for projects through public competition. In the academic year of 1972-1973 he was professor at the School of Architecture of Seville. His concept of architecture combines modernity and concern for the traditions and architectural culture of its historic city. In this sense, he inherited and maintained the vision of his father, the architect Lu\u00eds G\u00f3mez Estern, a prominent scholar of traditional architecture in Seville. He has been a professor at the Camilo Jos\u00e9 Cela University School of Architecture from 2003 to 2013 and a lecturer at various conferences, seminars and sessions related to Heritage and restoration in different Spanish and foreign universities. He set up his architecture office in 1998, Lavila Arquitectos, focused in the retrieval of monumental and historical complexes. Among other recognitions, he has received the Premio Europa Nostra in 2017 for the restoration of six churches in Lorca which were affected after the earthquakes which devastated the area in May 2011, the Culture Prize awarded by the Community of Madrid and the Rafael Manzano Prize for New Traditional Architecture 2018.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>

He was the director of the Escuelas-Taller <\/em>(hands on educational programs on building crafts) in Albarrac\u00edn and from 1996 onwards, the Director and Manager of the Fundaci\u00f3n Santa Mar\u00eda de Albarrac\u00edn, where he coordinates projects oriented to revitalize and develop locally, projects regarding the restoration of architecture and other assets, as well as carrying out cultural events associated to heritage. His work has made him deserving of several acknowledgments such as the Richard H. Driehaus Heritage Preservation Medal in 2019. He has been Professor at the School of Architecture of the University of Seville since 1966, where he was also Dean from 1974 to 1978. He started his professional career in La Coru\u00f1a as the partner of Arturo L\u00f3pez de la Osa. After that, he came back to his hometown, \u00c9cija. He then founded an architecture office along with Javier Madero and Jos\u00e9 Oliva, with whom he carried out many works. He worked as an advisor for the Institute of Architects of Seville, being the director and co-founder, along with Pedro G\u00f3rgolas, of the magazine titled Neutra<\/em>. He also worked with the Town Council of \u00c9cija as the director of the department of the Historic City Centre and as representative and lecturer at the Heritage Commission. Master blacksmith specialised in ironwork in construction and restoration. He began his training at the Escuela Taller de Restauraci\u00f3n y Rehabilitaci\u00f3n in Santiago de Compostela. He worked in various workshops where he became familiar with the diverse branches of metalwork. Over his career he has worked on the ironwork of monumental buildings such as the cathedrals of Santiago and Tuy, historic palaces such as those of Gelm\u00edrez or Rajoy, or the Castle of San Felipe, among others. He is also highly active in disseminating the techniques of his trade through the various courses he gives, the apprentices he regularly trains and the forgework meetings and events he takes part in. He is a member of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando (Madrid), of the Academia de San Telmo (M\u00e1laga), of the Real Academia de San Miguel Arc\u00e1ngel (Santa Cruz de Tenerife), of the Academia del Partal and a member of the board of trustees of the Alhambra and the Generalife (1986-1995). Since the 80s, he focuses his activity both in restoration and in teaching, becoming an specialist in historic carpentry, having written diverse books and articles on this topic. He has co-operated with several national and international institutions for the recovery and implementation of this craft both in Spain and in several European and African countries. He is a master blacksmith who started his career at the age of
13 with the master blacksmith Efra\u00edn Redondo at the Art School of Ciudad Real, he continued his metalwork training at the Art School of Toledo while working in his spare time in the forges of various master blacksmiths. Later, he set up his own workshop in San Antonio (La Pueblanueva, Toledo) from where he was researching on traditional techniques and working on many private commissions. Then, he started a very important work of disseminating and promoting his trade through video tutorials on YouTube and later created the School of Blacksmiths. He has recently he set up a mentored workshop in which he supervises and accompanies young blacksmiths who wish to ply the trade. He received the 2022 Richard H. She is the coordinator of the National Safeguarding Plan for the Spanish Intangible Cultural Heritage as well as of that for Traditional Architecture. She has received several awards for her research works related to Intangible Heritage such as the Mat\u00edas Ram\u00f3n Mart\u00ednez Award, the Juan de Goyeneche Award and the National Research Prize Marqu\u00e9s de Lozoya in Arts and Folk Traditions. She has published about 10 books and 100 articles on Intangible Cultural Heritage, a topic on which she has also delivered classes in different Spanish Universities. He wa also a researcher in the field of specific historical and technological studies of preindustrial construction. Donald Gray worked as an Architect in Andalusia, where he arrived from Australia. He did not study architecture at university, but instead learned the trade by studying traditional models directly and collecting teachings from the craftsmen who kept them alive. His projects range from the domestic scale to complete urban complexes on the coasts of Malaga and Granada. In addition, he established and worked as director of the Crafts School of Lebrija. Donald Gray received the 2015 Rafael Manzano Prize for New Traditional Architecture in 2015.
